Do Not Look Away
Do Not Look Away is a series of paintings born from my refusal to remain indifferent to the violence I see around us. War, rape, sexual violence, persecution, displacement and the destruction of civilian lives are not abstractions. Behind every statistic is a human being.
These paintings confront suffering, but they are also about dignity, survival and the persistence of humanity. Some respond to war and Gaza; others to violence against women, imprisonment and oppression. They are not intended to illustrate events, but to bear witness to what violence does to individuals and to our collective conscience.
I ask the viewer not simply to look at these images, but to face the people within them.
To look is not enough. We must not look away.
