Catholic Iconography in Europe

Ecclesia Catholica Iconographia explores the visual language of Catholicism through photographs made in Italy, Spain and France.
Sacred architecture, sculpture, religious objects and devotional imagery become fragments of a culture in which faith, history and art have been intertwined for centuries.
Working from my original black-and-white photographs, I introduced color by hand, transforming the photographic image while retaining its connection to the places and objects I encountered. The series reflects my continuing interest in memory, spirituality and the ways human beings give visible form to belief.
