Ecclesia Catholica Iconographia. 2005-25
In a world increasingly shaped by digital immediacy, I began this series as a meditation on the origins, symbolism and enduring presence of Catholic iconography. Working in Italy, Spain and France, I photographed frescoes, sculptures, architecture and sacred relics shaped by centuries of devotion and theological tradition.
I hand-paint these photographs, using color to create a dialogue between the original sacred objects and my own interpretation of them. I am interested in the sensuality, mystery and human presence within Catholic imagery, and in the ways these images have carried faith, memory and cultural identity across generations.
Through this work, I seek an intimacy with the sacred—not as religious documentation, but as an exploration of the enduring relationship between art, belief and human experience.
