An Aït Hadiddou shepherd carries a ram across his shoulders in the high Atlas Mountains near Imilchil. Made during my travels in Morocco in the 1970s, the photograph reflects my long-term exploration of traditional cultures and the enduring relationship between people, animals, land, and ways of life shaped over generations.
The direct gaze of the ram, set against the turned figure of the shepherd, creates an intimate portrait in which man and animal seem momentarily inseparable.
