Boatman on the Ganges — Varanasi, India

$1,750.00

Varanasi (Benares), India, 2001

A boatman rows along the Ganges beneath the ancient ghats of Varanasi. Photographed from within the boat, the image places the viewer directly on the river, with the solitary figure emerging against an expanse of water, sky, and the distant architecture of the sacred city.

Made during my years of returning to India, this photograph belongs to my continuing exploration of Varanasi and the relationship between daily life, spirituality, landscape, and the passage of time along the Ganges.
