Tibet, 1980s
Two Tibetan monks during the intimate ritual of shaving the head at a monastery in Tibet. One monk carefully works while the younger monk sits patiently beneath his hand, capturing an unguarded moment of everyday monastic life.
Made during my travels through Tibet in the 1980s, the photograph belongs to my long-term documentation of Tibetan culture and Buddhist traditions. Beyond ceremony and religious symbolism, I was interested in the ordinary gestures of daily life—the moments of concentration, companionship, and humanity that exist within the monastery.
